Surprise, Surprise

Landing Gear
(Minneapolis, MN) ~ mood-pop

Landing Gear's debut long-player, "break up songs for relationships that never happened" is a stunning mixture of moody guitar textures, rock-n-roll exuberance, and acoustic nuance. Focusing on strong melodies and song craft- the band provides a hefty dose of pop sensibility coupled with swirling atmospherics and raw emotion. The record charted in CMJ 200 almost immediately after it's release, and you may have also heard the band on the WB.

MOV (8mb)

T-Minus Band
(Birmingham, AL) ~ d.i.y. indie-pop

Former Kilgore Trout front man Troy T is making some of the most unique indie pop-rock out there. “I’ve heard I sound like just about everyone,” Troy replies after I toss out the name Super Furry Animals. He also sounds a little bit like R.E.M.— in fact, he lived for a short while in Athens, Ga., home of the popular quartet. And speaking of bands from Athens, maybe he sounds a little bit like Olivia Tremor Control. However, he could just as easily be described as Pink Floyd by way of the Flaming Lips.

Forewarned

The Swayback
(Denver, CO) ~ indie instinct-rock

Songs that drool art and sex, slatheredup on instinctual outsider world-views have propelled the Swayback to virtually every critic's "Best of" list. Theirs is a dark poetry that lets the listener’s gravity release and drift to sultry dream scape, where shadows bare harbor fruits.

“Watching Eric Halborg, bassist and vocalist, front his band is like watching a lion preen after the kill."
-- Rick Baca, Denver Post

Jason Daniello
and the Argonauts

(Albuquerque, NM) ~
desert roots pop

What one first notices about singer/songwriter Jason Daniello is his nearly ever-present smile and infectiously positive attitude. Scratch that most appealing surface just a little deeper and the true depth and breadth of his talent begins to emerge. And what does Jason himself have to say about his emergence as one of the most renowned singer /songwriters in Albuquerque? "It´s just the ebb and flow of life," he says. "Sometimes you´ve gotta inhale, sometimes you´ve gotta exhale."
